There's a new product on the market that takes the place of ice and compression bandages, called KOLD-RITE compression wraps. It's made of stretchable polyurethane foam and it works by evaporating water to provide a cooling affect. KOLD-RITE is helpful in treating sprains, arthritis, tendon, joint and muscle injuries. It compresses the damaged area, which prevents edema like a traditional compression wrap, but also draws heat from within the muscle tissue to reduce swelling. These wraps are not frozen, so you don't have to worry about tissue damage like you do with ice. Plus KOLD-RITE is flexible, so you don't have to restrict your movement after you apply it. KOLD-RITE doesn't have to be refrigerated or frozen; it's stored in an airtight container and is activated when opened. This is a great addition to your first aid kit, or you can throw it in your bag since it doesn't require refrigeration. You can reuse it up to 20 times by adding a couple tablespoons of water to rehydrate. KOLD-RITE can be cut to size for smaller areas and it's made of water based non-toxic materials.
