Maalox suspension contains two active ingredients, aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. These are both medicines called antacids. They are used to reduce the acidity of the stomach's juices. Stomach acid is produced in the stomach as a normal part of the digestive process. However, too much stomach acid can cause symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion. It can also irritate an inflamed stomach lining or an ulcer in the stomach or intestine (peptic ulcer). Antacids work by binding to and neutralising excess acid in the stomach and intestine. This helps to relieve the pain and discomfort of heartburn and indigestion associated with excess stomach acid or peptic ulcers. Maalox can be used to relieve the symptoms of: Heartburn or acid indigestion. Inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis). Peptic ulcers. How do I take it? Shake the bottle well before measuring out a dose. Adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over should take two to four 5ml spoonfuls (10 to 20ml) 20 minutes to one hour after meals and at bedtime, as needed to relieve symptoms.
