Stevia is a plant native to the subtropical and tropical regions of the Americas that has been used by the Guarani people as a natural sweetener for more than 1500 years with their yerba mate and other medicinal teas. Stevia is calorie-free and viewed by many as a better alternative to artificial sweeteners. This Stevia extract is of a very high grade, the Rebaudioside A purity is 98.24% making it one of the purest stevia extracts on the market. Many are available with lower purity, but they are not as sweet, and a much higher quantity is required for the same effect. For example a tiny pinch of Simply Wholesome stevia is needed for the equivalent of 2 sugars in your tea, but 2 whole teaspoons would be required of an extract of only 97% Rebaudioside A. The sweetness ratio is 1:30 which means that this 100g packet is equivalent to 3kg of sugar! So you need to use approximately 1/30th the quantity of sugar for the same sweetness effect.
