Important:
Check with your doctor before using Epsom Salt if you have any health conditions, that when combined with a salt application, might be cause for concern.
If you have high or low blood pressure, use a more tepid bath (warm as opposed to hot) and reduce the length of time in the bath. If you have a heart condition, use a cooler bath, keep the amount of water below the lever of your heart and soak for no more than 15 minutes.
Epsom salt baths are not recommended for people with serious illness, acute systemic conditions, kidney disease, fever or if you are pregnant. Consult with a physician if you are unsure about your health status and the use of Epsom Salt.
Do not use magnesium sulphate as a laxative without medical advice if you have:
Severe stomach pain; nausea or vomiting; a perforated bowel;
A bowel obstruction or severe constipation;
A sudden change in bowel habits lasting 2 weeks or longer. Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take medicine if you have:
Diabetes; kidney disease;
An eating disorder (anorexia or bulimia);
If you have already been using a laxative for longer than a week; or
If you on a low magnesium diet.
It is not known whether magnesium sulphate will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. It is not known whether magnesium sulphate passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby.
