Product Description

Organic Cacao Butter.Cacao, or Cocoa, is an evergreen tree, which grows naturally in tropical climates around the world. It has for centuries been central to diets in its native areas. In recent times it has attracted attention because of its nutritional richness and the health benefits associated with its antioxidant content. Cacao butter is the oil content of the cacao bean. It contains several beneficial saturated fats such as Palmitic Acid. It is used primarily as an ingredient in chocolate, as well as a core ingredient in skin care products. It has a delicate chocolate flavour and a light texture. When mixed with a lightweight oil it makes an interesting baking ingredient.

Sevenhills Wholefoods source their beans from South America, and only those of a premium variety. Its seed pods are harvested by hand. They are broken apart and left until the soft flesh surrounding the bean has fermented and run off as liquid. The fermentation process affects the taste of the beans, which lose some bitter flavours. The beans are washed, cleaned, dried, then peeled and broken into small pieces (nibs). The nibs are pressed to extract the fat content, or butter. This is filtered, decanted into a mould and cooled.

Cacao supports the body's immune system, skin and hair, and has been known to reduce anxiety whilst simultaneously promoting alertness. A cup of cacao can provide the same energy as a cup of coffee. There is also evidence to suggest that health benefits known to be contributed to cacao beans indicate a possibility that they could be a weight loss aid.
