Product Description

It can be assumed that more than 7 million people are affected by Coeliac Disease across Europe, with only approximately 25% of those actually receiving a diagnosis. Coeliac Disease can present with a wide range of mild to very severe symptoms with the only treatment being a strict daily gluten-free diet (Association of European Coeliac Societies).

Coeliac disease can cause various disorders such as: diarrhoea, weight loss, abdominal swelling, malnutrition and skin reactions. This inflammation is caused by GLIADIN, or the protein portion of gluten. Recent studies have shown that coeliac subjects produce specific deamidated anti-peptide antibodies to gliadin (anti-DGP), both IgA and IgG class. These antibodies show high specificity and sensitivity to coeliac disease, allowing for high accuracy in diagnosis. Early diagnosis of coeliac disease can reduce the progression of intestinal damage and avoid more serious complications.

Coeliac disease is not caused only by gluten, i.e. the environmental factor but also by some genetic factors. Coeliac disease is one of the most common genetic diseases. In particular the HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8 complex are strongly associated with coeliac disease. This does not mean that those who possess these genes are necessarily coeliac, but simply have a predisposition to develop coeliac disease.

The Coeliac Test is a rapid immunochromatographic test to reveal the presence of class IgA and IgG anti-DGP antibodies in whole blood for coeliac disease screening.

The Coeliac Test can be performed when symptoms such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain and swelling, weight loss, fatigue and/or skin reactions are present. The test can be performed at any time of the day, on a full or empty stomach.

Gliadin is a protein component in gluten responsible for the immune reaction that causes intestinal inflammation in patients suffering from coeliac disease. Recent studies of the d
