Jodasept ointment contains as an active ingredient povidone iodine (povidone is an excipient, which delays the release of the iodine, thereby avoiding the heat effect on the tissue). Jodasept is a broad spectrum disinfectant that is active against bacteria, viruses and fungi. It destroys also sporulation strains (microorganisms that are reproduced through spores)that are insensitive to sulfonamides and antibiotics. Jodasept ointment has a long duration effect due to the continuing release of iodine from the complex. Owing to its broad spectrum of action is not necessary to pre-determine the type and strain of the pathogen involved.
YODASEPT ointment should be applied twice a day directly onto the wound surface or as a dressing applied to a sterile gauze. In highly inflamed or wet (draining purulent discharge) wound dressing may be renewed every 4 - 6 hours in order to achieve optimal antimicrobial effect.
